(Pittsburgh,
PA) -- The Global Conference Institute's recent world health
conference, How Policy is Influencing Healthcare and Medicine:
Leaders Affecting Change and The Business of Healthcare,
at the University of Chicago drew leading representatives
from healthcare and medicine from the US and abroad to
discuss current issues impacting healthcare and healthcare
delivery.
Participating in a panel discussion entitled "The
Strategic Direction and Outcome of Policy," was David
Iwinski, President and CEO of Acusis, a Pittsburgh-based
provider of medical transcription services. Also on the panel
were noted speakers Glenn D. Steele, Jr., M.D., Ph.D., President
and CEO of Geisinger Health System; Richard F. Corlin, M.D.,
President, American Medical Association; Irwin Birnbaum,
Esq., COO, Yale University School of Medicine; and Richard
Schrock, CFO, Ohio State University Medical Center.
Mr. Iwinski presented his perspective
on the topic as a medical services provider. "As a business
partner to healthcare providers, we are keenly aware of how
our services affect the costs of healthcare delivery in an
era of an aging population and increased technology." says
Iwinski. "The business model on which we base our company
includes a globally-based workforce of highly qualified transcriptionists,
which enables us to offer a quality product as cost effectively
as possible." he said.
In order to stay competitive in the current
healthcare environment, Iwinski suggests that providers like
Acusis need to think globally. "In today's healthcare
environment the business of hospitals providing the best
services possible is resulting in accelerated outsourced
contracting. Maintaining flexibility and reacting quickly
and intelligently to cost and quality market forces are key
to the approaches one must take in delivering valued services." says
Iwinski.
As the special highlight, the Global
Conference Institute and its President and Chairman of the
Board, Deborah S. Ziskind, honored actress Sharon Stone for
her work as Chairman of the Campaign for AIDS Research for
The American Foundation for AIDS Research. Stone was named
recipient of The Global Conference Institute's Healthcare
Humanitarian Award for 2002. The award was established in
1998 to recognize one individual in the world who has demonstrated
a profound commitment and devotion to healthcare and humanitarianism.
"Acusis is truly a preeminent leader
in the healthcare industry. We were delighted to have Mr.
Iwinski and the vital commentary he added," said Deborah
S. Ziskind, The Global Institute's President and Chairman
of the Board.
