Acusis Plans to Invest $5 Million More in India
Source: Hindu Business Line
Acusis, a US-based medical transcription company, is planning to invest $5 million
more in its Indian operations in 2002. The company, which set up its operations
in India a few months ago, had already pumped in $8 million in creating the necessary
infrastructure, said Mr. David Iwinski, CEO, Acusis. The company which caters
mainly to the US market, is pioneering home-based medical transcription in India,
where the MTs could work from their houses, Mr. Iwinski said, adding that all
they needed to have was the requisite skill sets, a PC and a telephone line.
By adopting the home-based model, which has been tried and tested successfully
in the US, we are eliminating fixed facilities costs, Mr. Iwinski said, adding
that the future investments in India would be linked to the growth of the business.
Acusis has a team of some 100 medical transcriptionists at present, of which
nearly 70 per cent operate from their homes, said Mr. K.B. Anand, COO, India.
We expect this base to increase to some 4,000 in the next three to four years,
he said, adding that there was good potential in India for the business. In over
40 homes in Bangalore, husband/wife, father/son teams were working successfully
from home supplementing their incomes, he added. |
